Geriatric Care Managers (GCMs, now sometimes called Aging Life Care Advisors) can be incredible partners to suss out your individual situation and figure out actionable next steps. But also can be quite expensive. To the right are my notes from interviewing a GCM for my mom back in 2013.

  1. Symphony Care Management Dementia Care Program.
  2. Aging Life Care Association provides searchable databases to connect with GCMs near you.
  3. LifeCare Advocates and All About Eldersare two respected MA-based GCM organizations.
  4. Hebrew Senior Life provides a vast array of services for seniors in the Greater Boston area, including a searchable database of providers from social workers to neurologists to hospice.

Ageless Grace

In Massachusetts, MassHealth can provide varying levels of coverage for seniors and those in need of long-term care. It often requires working with an elder law attorney to help advocate for your case, but it can be worth the upfront cost of attorney fees once successful. Hopefully other states also offer this coverage in some form.

I just read about the McCance Center for Brain Health at MassGeneral’s Brain Score Card. I haven’t taken it yet, but it is intended to help one take good care of one’s brain health. Clearly something important to us all, but especially so if we already are experiencing the impact of dementia in our own families.
